Standing for Re-Election

Chairperson
Herman Schut
Herman is the President of Nova II Beauty located in Burnaby, BC. He is a certified sales professional graduate and long-standing member of the Canadian Professional Sales Association. Herman has been in the beauty industry for over 20 years, initially managing the introduction and distribution of a major hair and color care product line into Canada. Today he owns and manages an esthetics supply business, marketing to clients throughout BC. Herman is a past provincial director of the Allied Beauty Association and now sits as a Board member of the CIABC. He brings a unique perspective to the board from his experience and insight related to product sales, education and marketing within the beauty industry. Herman is an active supporter of industry programs such as student Skills Canada competitions and the Teacher and School Owners Convention.

One of the key observations Herman has noted over the years is that as much as everyone seeks success in business, those who claim ultimate satisfaction are those who have given back to the industry they serve. On that note he encourages all industry professionals to join the CIABC to give them another avenue of support for success in their chosen career.

Omar Kanani
Omar Kanani has been in the cosmetology industry for over 27 years. He started his career in England and worked at Toni & Guy for 17 years. Omar’s personal goals are to promote education and personal development. And now, as a CIABC Board Member, he can focus on his goal and raise the bar and profile of CIABC to the media and general public. His long-term goals are to establish a business that will take hairdressers under its umbrella and enable then to learn better communications skills, to achieve their goals, and work smarter in business.

New Nominees

Jim Dreichel

I co-own, and am acting General Manager of Mine: (Salon) Stylesource, a busy and vibrant, medium sized salon in the neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant in Vancouver, BC.

My Husband, Anthony Crosfield and I have owned our salon for the last 10 years. Between the two of us we have well over 30 years experience in the beauty industry. Anthony's long list of achievements include being Canada's reigning 'Superstar Hair Challenge' winner and a lead visionary, platform artist and educator for leading industry manufacturers product lines like P&G's Professional Care, Wella, Sebastian and Graham Webb.

For myself, I have a lengthy history of achievements which I know will be of benefit to the association. Currently, I am partnered with P&G Beauty and work as a Backstage Show Manager (Western Canada) for their larger trade shows, eg. Evolve and of course the ABA's. I am also directly involved with 2 substantial Salon owners networks:

- Eufora International - Several hundred salons throughout North America and Europe

- Wella International, which includes many of the top salons in Vancouver

I have significant Board Experience:

- Past President of The Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Association
The association represented close to 500 area businesses; our mandate was to increase the profile of the area and develop business principles

- Board of Directors of The Australian, New Zealand Club, "The Anza"
Currently overseeing a substantial renovation of the clubhouse

Involved heavily in fundraising endeavors for Charitable organizations such as:

- Children's Wish Foundation
- Aids Vancouver
- Food for Life

Fundraising efforts were successful through our involvement with productions like "Hair to Help" and the CIABC's "Show Off", raising in excess of $40,000.

One of the main things Anthony and I have in common is being long time supporters of our professional trade associations, the CIABC. I intend to secure a position as a team member of the Board of Directors for the CIABC. I want to congratulate the association for moving forward in a bright new direction. Should I be successful in my desire to secure a position within the Board, I will work for the following:

- The return to a fully government-regulated industry with the highest levels of standards

- Full transparency

- Increased membership
- Increased high quality education inclusive of
a. Technical
b. Business
c. Service Levels
d. Health and Safety
e. A voluntary assessment and accreditation for salons to maintain and elevate standards within our industry to the highest levels (see the Australian Hairdressing Council's approach)

I am proud to be a supporter of the CIABC as it moves forward to create a strong unified group of professionals, and I believe my experience and knowledge would be a solid, fresh addition to the board. You are either part of the problem or part of the solution. I choose the latter!

Although working in many aspects of the industry, her company is dedicated to bringing easy and effective educational products to the industry, concentrating particularly on the business, producing products that are used in schools and salons alike.

The favourite saying: "All that creativity and talent are wasted if you don't have a client in your chair." When not helping salons with their business, Marion can be found with her horse, Piazza or on the golf course, playing a particularly mediocre game.
